To get a fast, accurate CNC turning quote, send the shop six things: (1) a fully dimensioned drawing, (2) the material grade, (3) the quantity, (4) tolerances on the features that matter, (5) any surface finish or plating, and (6) the delivery date and address. The more complete your request, the more accurate the price and the fewer rounds of questions.
1. The drawing
The drawing matters most. Show every dimension you need, the units (millimetres), angles, thread callouts (for example M10×1.5) and any special notes. If the job has several parts, give each a part number and the quantity per set. If you don't have a drawing yet, ask the sales team what information they will need.
2. Material
State the exact grade, such as SS400 steel, SUS303 or SUS304 stainless, 6061-T6 aluminium, brass or POM. Raw material cost and machining difficulty vary a lot between grades. If you are unsure, describe what the part does, the loads on it, and whether it meets water or chemicals. (Related: 303 vs 304 stainless steel.)
3. Quantity
Give the quantity for this order and, for repeat parts, a rough monthly or yearly volume. Every CNC job carries programming and set-up time; the larger the batch, the more that cost is spread out, so the price per part usually drops.
4. Tolerances
Put tight tolerances only on features that need them, such as a bore that takes a bearing or a shaft that fits another part. Tight tolerances everywhere slow down machining and add inspection time, which raises cost for no benefit.
5. Finish and plating
If you need a particular surface finish, or plating such as zinc, nickel, hardening or aluminium anodising, say so when you ask for the price. It affects both cost and lead time.
6. Delivery date and address
Tell the shop when you need the parts and where they should go, so they can schedule production and include transport in the quote.
